East vs. West Map Discs: Which One Do You Need?

The map upgrade comes in two versions: East and West. Here's why, and how to pick.

Why Two Discs?

A DVD can only hold so much. The full US map data is too big for one disc, so Pioneer split the country in half. The East disc covers the eastern states. The West disc covers the western states.

Which One Do You Need?

Simple rule: buy the disc for where you drive most.

  • Live in New York, Florida, or Texas? Get the East disc.
  • Live in California, Arizona, or Colorado? Get the West disc.
  • Drive cross-country a lot? You'd need both — one at a time.

Check the coverage map on the disc packaging to see exactly which states are on each side.

Don't Overthink It

Most people drive in one region. Pick that region's disc and you're done. If you take one big road trip a year, your phone can cover the other half.
